THE MOVER RELAUNCH

THE MOVER print and online magazine will be relaunching in Spring 2016.

THEMOVERLOGO

THE MOVER aims to set an agenda in motion and incite an identity for its readers, as a modern consumer era zine.

The style and sounds of this generation looks back on roots in the sub-cultures of our predecessors in order to look forward and amalgamate the innovative new.

Borrowing themes and aesthetics from classic Modzines and the contemporary glossy style-mag, THE MOVER shall construct, promote and define this generation’s amalgamated youth culture.

This generation is shaped by nostalgia for vintage subcultures and sounds, with a lasting Mod and Rock & Roll influence on 2016 style – in areas of both music and fashion.

THE MOVER aims to pay attention to a generation shaped by former aesthetics, in toying with the values of the mainstream music magazine, and discovering a new creative dynamic.

This generation appreciates Britain’s iconic past, taking a scrapbook of history, then slicing, chopping and reforming the old, cutting scraps into our own new shapes and ideas.

As an originator for dynamism THE MOVER shall instigate a revival for a forgotten youth-culture, in formulating an eclectic identity for its readers.

Shaking things up, THE MOVER takes action to initiate a quiet revolution, as a celebration of Mod culture and Rock & Roll’s lasting influence on the cutting-edge.

Currently looking for more writing contributors and photographers, feel free to get in touch and get involved. And we always love being contacted by bands and artists with some new sounds if you fancy a review.

Artist Of The Day: Bad Atoms

Felix Davis, formally known as Bad Atoms’ bedroom rock is born from heartbreak. Following a split from a long-term girl friend, Davis turned to his guitar in order to formulate soothing spools of stoner-folk, to console a broken heart.

Bad Atoms

The West London singer-songwriter has so far seen two DIY tracks with a desire to release a forthcoming self-produced debut album Tell Your Friends.

‘Kilogrammes’ explores the possibility to measure everything – including happiness and lost love. Joined by Jimmy Page’s daughter Jana, Bad Atoms dismisses his ex-girlfriend with a blissful and quirky duet, ‘I don’t need your centimeters…’

The most recently released ‘Artificial Sweetener’ continues Bad Atom’s clever metaphorical explorations. Davis compares the charade of an unfeeling romance to that of artificial sweeteners in your tea.

Band of the Day – Dante Elephante

Dante Elephante thrust California surf-rock into new realms. The Santa Barbra group sprinkles slacker-rock with the sentimentality of a 60s British melody, collecting the fuzz of garage-pop along the way.

Dante Elephante

With their debut album Anglo Saxon Summer out now in the UK on Lolipop Records, Dante Elephante’s jangling guitars and nonchalant attitude formulate a pacifying breeze.

Taken from the indie-rockers debut album, ‘Never Trust A Junkie’ dances an upbeat melancholy. The summer-pop tune sways a sentimental quirk.

Band of The Day – Victories At Sea

Birmingham hails another eclectic band with Victories At Sea. Deriving from post-punk, with a tinker of touching synth and haunting electronics, the band soars in indie-dance dynamism. The dark allure of Manchester’s iconic The Chameleons draws into modern realms, as Victories At Sea add a modern and elevating stroke to gloomy indie. Think The Editors with a touch of enigmatic sparkle.

Victories At Sea

The group began to see recognition with their debut moody-pop EP In Memory Of, with their first album Everything Forever soon to see release.

Taken from the forthcoming album ‘Up’ pumps innovative pop with an underlying captivating drone of post-punk tones. Victories At Sea injects a rising empathy into tales of love and loss. ‘You told me you’d never give up,’ intoxicatingly spools hook-laden lyrics, which console the dark romantic soul. With a juddering dance-beat, the Birmingham band elevates feelings of loneliness with vivacious song-craft.

The tender ‘Lucid Dreaming’ sees a delightful indie scuffle, that tantalizes and indulges the senses with a consoling sweep.

California Carpool is dream-pop at it’s most delicately euphoric.

Band of The Day: Lusts

Brothers Andy & James Stone bring the dark essence of new wave up to date with the jangle of modern indie. For fans of Echo & The Bunnymen to New Order, the Lusts formulate an intrinsically commanding and layered sound, impressively as just a mere twosome.

‘Waves’ comes from the Leicester band’s forthcoming LP Illuminations, propelling dark tangles of guitar and driving bass. A touch of cosmic synth adds a sparkling allure to Lusts.

With the magnetic charisma of great Brit-rock acts before them, Lusts spool an entrancing mystery with compelling vitality.

Illuminations sees release October 23rd on 1965 Records

The Irish hailing five-some come together as childhood friends. The band’s music was born from the restraint free discovery of their teenage years cultivating together – and has lead to the energetic and vivacious dynamism of O Emperor.

For fans of Mac Demarco to Ariel Pink and MGMT, the quintet kaleidoscope, sway and shift in playful psychedelic and indie-pop vitality.

‘Switchblade’ bounds as an indie anthem, flooded in seizing hazed out synth. The track’s video sees spirited humor in its quirky cartoon format, as it pokes fun at the colourless charade of the mainstream music industry. O Emperor injects a sparkle of jest into psych-rock.
